An Afternoon of Reading at “Pages Bookstore Café Amsterdam”.

A group of 8 local English-language writers and roughly 50 guests attended the event. The readings included poetry, short stories, and creative non-fiction. At times we had laugh out loud moments and at other times thought-provoking reflections. The aim of the readings was to showcase local talent as well as foster ties within the English-language writing community in Amsterdam.

The venue was ideal for this purpose. Pages Bookstore Cafe Amsterdam was founded by Syrian refugees as a home for music, arts and literature. The orange walls and the low ceiling all contributed towards a cosy environment. The bookstore sells books in Arabic, English and Dutch for both adults and children. It has a cosy seating area, and you can order tea or coffee. At the back of the bookstore is a garden, that has comfortable seats so in the summer months this might be a favourite tea drinking bookstore for me. I am looking forward to the next reading.
