Thousands of second hand books in English- classics, prize winners, children's books, travel guides, thrillers, science fiction/fantasy,  biographies,  ESL books, etc. We've got a bit of everything. And at great second hand prices. We accept good condition, recently publish, soft covered books in English. Books should have been published in the last 4 years (2013), and have minimal markings. We especially need (and offer more credit for) Prize Winners, New Releases, and Classics.  There are many exceptions to the 2013 rule, so if you're not sure, bring it in and we'll let you know. The most obvious exception is Classics. English Language Learning text books need to have been published after 2014 to receive any credit. We give 1/3 of the selling price in credit. And don't forget our cafe: coffees, teas, cocktails, beer, craft beers, wine, Intercambio nights(Wed, Thur, Sat 8pm), Quiz nights(Fridays 11pm), Awesome homemade handmade BAGELS, too! The Last Bookstore is California’s largest used and new book and record store. Currently in our third incarnation, we began in 2005 in a downtown Los Angeles loft. That’s when owner Josh Spencer took his decade of experience selling everything from cars to clothes online and focused instead on his first love: books. During the revitalization of downtown LA, we grew quickly to our current 22,000 sq. ft. space in the Spring Arts Tower at 5th and Spring. The name was chosen with irony, but seems more appropriate with each passing day as physical bookstores die out like dinosaurs from the meteoric impact of Amazon and e-books. We continue to BUY, SELL, and TRADE like we have from day one. In addition to over 250,000 NEW and USED books on two floors, including our new Arts & Rare Book Annex, our shared space includes tens of thousands of VINYL RECORDS and GRAPHIC NOVELS, a huge mezzanine level that includes the Labyrinth Above the Last Bookstore, Gather Yarn Shop, and the Spring Arts Collective gallery shops.  Truly something for everyone. Somehow we became one of the largest independent bookstores in the world still standing. We continue to be amazed at how we got here. It’s ALL thanks to people like you who want to keep actual books and records existing in the world.

Left Bank Books has been a fixture of Seattle's radical community since 1973 when a group of people split off from the University District’s Red and Black Books to form their own collective bookstore in the Pike Place Market. The two projects would continue as separate but mutually supportive projects until the mid 90’s when Red and Black closed its doors. For much of the 80s and 90s, the Left Bank Books Collective expanded to include two other projects: AKA Books, a used bookstore in Seattle's University District, as well as a wholesale distribution and mail order project known as Left Bank Distribution. Neither of these projects exists today due to financial problems and rental situations in Seattle. Left Bank is collectively owned and operated by its workers and has been since its inception. As an anarchist collective, Left Bank has no bosses or managers. Decisions are made in bi-monthly collective meetings based on a consensus process. Despite all the changes over the years, Left Bank Books continues to thrive at our Pike Place Market storefront thanks to Seattle's radical community and the many folks who visit us from out of town.

In addition, we offer an ever-changing and unique array of desirable sale books in all fields culled from a variety of sources that appeals to the most discriminating buyer.

In spite of our substantial size and reach, we remain grounded by our company's core values, which have guided us through the ups and downs of the bookselling industry. Each and every employee's love of books drives us forward. We have an especially intimate relationship with Portland — what other city in America can name a bookstore as its top attraction? We host over 500 author events a year, in addition to children's storytimes, writing workshops, game demonstrations, and book clubs. Through Powells.com and our expansive online community, we also reach readers around the world, people who are as excited about books as we are. We look forward to a future filled with many new opportunities, new innovations, and, of course, new books

Prairie Lights sprang to life in May 1978 as a small, intimate bookstore offering titles by the newer voices of Raymond Carver and Alice Munro and by established authors like Eudora Welty and George Orwell. As the staff and customers tended the books with care much like a garden, the store grew and blossomed. By 1982 Prairie Lights transplanted itself from South Linn St. to South Dubuque and has gradually spread to three and a half floors, the half being an 1100 square foot coffee house located in the same space that the local literary society met throughout the 1930's, hosting writers Carl Sandburg, Robert Frost, Sherwood Anderson, Langston Hughes, e e cummings and others. Gertrude Stein and friend Alice B. Toklas were scheduled for a reading but were sleeted in at Waukesha airport-- or so the story goes. Perhaps the strength of reputation lies in the reading series of local, national and international writers who have read their works which were broadcast live on stations WSUI and WOI and which was the only regular literary series of its kind. All of this could not have been possible without a loyal customer base and a dedicated staff. We thank our customers for their continued support and welcome our new customers.

Horses and art are what I know and love, and when I began selling out-of-print books part-time in 1973, I named the business Blue Rider Books to reflect these two interests. The Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter) was a group of early 20th-century German painters, and one of them, Franz Marc, provides our logo. I grew up near San Francisco and earned art history degrees from Wellesley and Columbia. After a career as a staff and freelance art book editor for several trade and university presses, I began selling books full-time in 1983. In that year H.L. Mendelsohn and I opened our shop near Harvard Square. Along the way I changed the name to Robin Bledsoe, Bookseller, although many old friends and customers still think of me as "the Blue Rider."

Schooner Books began its existence in a small storefront on Gottingen St. Halifax on Nov. 3, 1975. We started with an inventory of mainly paperbacks on the advice of a more seasoned bookseller who told us there was no future in dusty old hardcovers. Thank goodness our customers felt differently. From almost the first day, we had requests for books we hadn't heard of, subjects & specialties we didn't know existed. That was the real world of used books and that was where we wanted to be. Our customers taught us through their interests and what an education it has been. Throughout the years we have bought & sold so many wonderful books and have met so many interesting people. We have developed specialties in Atlantic Provinces history and literature, early Canadiana, Canadian Art, Canadian Military, Illustrated Books, Fine bindings, Early Children's books as well as a general stock of good used & out of print books on a variety of subjects including Literature, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Science, History, Antiquarian, etc., etc. We try and issue several catalogues a year mainly on Atlantic Province History & Literature. We have been at this location on Inglis for over 30 years and have a select collection of used, rare & op books . We also have a selection of antiquarian maps & prints relating to the Atlantic Provinces.

Since its establishment Thorolds Modern and Antiquarian Booksellers has remained a most significant source of valuable, rare and exciting books, prints and maps (more than 100 000 titles) dating back to the 1700’s and even earlier. Sincere gratefulness is owed towards the people who have preserved this heritage for generations to come. One recalls with respect the original founder, Frank R. Thorold, who established the Company as far back as 1904. Its main source of income at the time came from Singer Sewing Machines, for which Mr. Thorold had the South African agency. He found space in the corner of his shop for some books as well and gradually grew this into Thorolds Booksellers.

Three Lives is our living room, and a living place. It is a work in progress. We (the store and our customers) have grown up and evolved together. People come here to see and buy what we consider to be some of the best books available today. They also come to discuss books, culture, and events of the moment. They meet for a sense of community in times of national tragedy and personal celebration. Intrinsically, books extend a graciousness that provokes discourse.   In 1991, the Greenwich Village Historical Society cited us for being "a pocket of civility." With the advent of the big chains and more recently the internet, there is little room to be competitive by having more or costing less. Our survival has been due to our commitment to being that "pocket" - and embracing our client's wish, for a bookstore that they have helped create.   A knowledgeable staff that reads prodigiously has been a key to our success, as has a theatrical and artistic display of the books we carry. Special orders remain a significant area of service, and we are meticulous about our follow through. We thrive on discovering literary books that might otherwise be overlooked, and thrill to give them to our customers.

Zhongsuhge-Hangzhou store is located within the bustling commercial center of Star Avenue, Binjiang District, adjacent to Qiantang River. Walking from Star Avenue Phase I to the forest gallery of Phase II, you can see the wholly transparent glass curtain wall fully covered with texts. Looking through the glass curtain, a pure white space consisting of circular bookshelf pillars escape the shackles of the surrounding environment. These white pillars carrying books rise up straight to the sky. Under the reflection of ceiling mirror, they seem to have a conversation beyond time. Additionally, the wall mirror doubles the transverse dimension to enable the whole book spaces to seem unbounded as the real nature. Upon exposure to the forest of books, we intend to acknowledge readers the awareness of knowledge as indispensable as oxygen from trees in our lives. These tree-like pillars stand tall, and emit the light of knowledge to indulge every soul comes here. The ceiling is decorated with small lights that are dancing joyfully as the elves guarding the forest. The ground-stationed desks are mingled with the forest, flexibly as creek to allow people to read by sitting on or standing beside. Tirelessly, they help us to acquire the strength granted by the texts.
